Discussion

This was the first spit (equal to the material in spit 011AD00045) of a loamy sand (Munsell 10YR 4/2), excavated across the waterlogged area to the west of the spring pool. At this level, no waterlogged material was recovered. The finds included a fired clay loomweight and fragments of Niedermendig lava, which were quite common in the immediate vicinity. No animal bones were found.
